By Alexa Metayer

If you are not yet familiar with the phrase, Lucid Dreaming is a relatively simple concept.

A Lucid Dream is a dream where you are aware that you are dreaming, even while in the middle of it. The degree of lucidity depends on a few things - how much control you can exert over events in the dream, how much of the dream you can remember upon waking and how stable the dream is.

This last factor is probably one of the most remarkable parts of lucid dreaming. Experiencing and identifying a dream and taking control of it is really quite an amazing feat. The simple fact of knowing that you are dreaming and identifying the dream as such is astounding.

Lucid dreaming allows you to take control of the lucid dream and realize that within the dream there are no limits to where your imagination can take you.

Just consider that for a moment. Lucid Dreaming looks, feels and engages all of your other senses as if it were really happening but you know that you are only dreaming and will be totally safe no matter what you do.

Lucid Dreaming is far more advanced and has far more realism that any virtual reality generated by even the most sofisticat3ed computer technology.

It simply cannot be denied that lucid dreaming is a fantastic skill and it's hardly surprising that more and more people are becoming interested in learning how to master the art. Even though some people may not realize it, lucid dreaming is something which most people experience on occasions, but just for a minute try to imagine how it would feel if you could have a lucid dream whenever you chose.

But experiencing regular and controlled Lucid Dreams can actually be fairly complicated to achieve. Certainly until recently people would spend months going through an instruction training and self-conditioning procedure prior to obtain familiarity to their first lucid dream. Often people would manage to have but brief instants of lucidity, whereas others never succeed in it at all.

Are there any easy ways for someone to experience a lucid dream?

Many people feel that particular foods can encourage or induce a lucid dream. You should try these immediately before going to sleep. Orange Juice, Milk and Cheese and also Mustard have been reported as being good things to consume for the best results.

Others swear by pickles, fish, ice cream and popcorn. They say that these foods lay the necessary conditions for Lucid Dreaming to occur; but keep in mind that these foods are also high in fat and salt, which isn't going to help you to get a good night's sleep.

Can Technology Assist You?

Your chances to experience Lucid Dream session improves with the new advancing technology. There are now devices on the market that alerts you that you are dreaming and which can induce a Lucid Dream Session. These are quite innovative in that they are simply masks which monitor your eyes. When they detect REM or Rapid Eye Movement, which is an indicator of dreaming, a red diode blinks into your eyes. This beam is registered in your brain and serves as a reminder that you are in fact dreaming and that you are still in control. It is then that you can take control o the dream.

One of the most effective of these new technologies is one which uses audio frequencies called binaural beats. Each of the listener's ears have different frequencies played into them, which helps you to have Lucid Dreams.
