How Dr. Nancy Sorbel Is Healing in Haiti

By Allen Cardoza

In the Answers For The Family radio show, talk show hosts Allen Cardoza and Dr. Melody Foxx recently interviewed Doctor Nancy Sobel, a certified psychologist who is the co-founder of the Global Adolescent Project and Boarding House Mentors.

The Global Adolescent Project, a non-profit project in Haiti, relocates adolescent orphans from the dangers of displaced people camps. Her project moves adolescents living in tents into safe housing.

Doctor. Sobel is a certified psychologist in private practice in West Los Angeles, CA. She works with individuals, couples, families, and communities, and she specializes in the treatment of trauma, compulsive issues and addictions and has consulted in the development of treatment programs throughout the United States and overseas.

The doctor has been involved in the nonprofit world since age 13 when she worked in recreation agencies for physically challenged kids.

The talk show discussed:

1. How the most important prison in Haiti collapsed during the earthquakes and that criminals were on the loose terrifying raping and pillaging in the camps.

2. How there is an abnormally high incidence of rape inside Haiti amongst young women and teen girls living in the tent villages.

3. How she rented an apartment house for a year to safeguard teenagers and how she is planning to rent a building to house them.

4. How her mission is to educate, give confidence hardiness and give power to disenfranchised kids globally. In addition to secure housing, the scheme pays all tuition for schools, gives mental health services and provides microloans and education for small, indigenous business enterprises.

5. How teenagers have fallen in the breach of intermediary youth.

6. How women are blatantly overlooked in this society and how domestic violence is unchecked, so part of their resilience-training project is teaching the teenagers to be able to survive the crisis.

7. How she is initiating micro-financing to help citizens in Haiti shore up their families. She described how microloans work.

Dr. Sobel is happy to accept donations to help her fulfill her project. All the money goes straight to the children. No administration fees are charged. 100% of the funds go to help these nation.
