How To Find Classic Literature Online

By Adam Jason

To read classic literature online, you can use a search engine such as google or yahoo. You can type the poem, book, or author you want to find, whether it be Robertson Davis, Gabriel Roy, Margaret Lawrence, Mazo de la Roche, or another Canadian classic author. If you don't have a particular author or book in mind, you can go to google books and browse the books in the classics section. To get the full text of the book you want to read, click the full view option. To find a book with google, type its title and add words like 'complete text', 'full text', transcript' or similar.

Once you have found your book, look at the format. Most electronic books contain chapters and you can go straight to the relevant passage or chapter of the book. If you use the google books search engine, you can type a passage, sentence, or a particular term you are looking for. All pages that contain the relevant term will be displayed for your convenience.

Many websites offer free online literature to their readerships. The files are typically ordered by author name. You will see a sign near the title, which denotes whether you can read the full version of the text. Reviews and summaries of the books are also offered. You can read them to decide if you will like a particular book. Some websites also feature a book of the day, highlighting particular readings every day.

Some free books websites offer sections that are targeting children and young readers (e.g. Classic Reader). If you have children, you can spur their interest in classic readings by accessing them online. You will find books such as 'Doctor Dolittle', 'The Jungle Book', 'Adventures of Alice in Wonderland', and many others.

You can check whether it is possible to adjust the font and size of the text. You may be able to zoom the text so that it is comfortable for the eyes. If you prefer to read the book in a hard-copy format, you can print the book or a chapter/ page of the text. Copy paste your selection of choice in a Microsoft Word document or use the print button. By pressing the print button in Microsoft Word, you will print the selected text.

Books are available in different formats, such as HTML, e-books, and text. Some books are offered in formats suitable for Kindle, Palm, iPhones, and other applications. You may be charged a fee for the service, but some websites offer free e-books.

Note that some classic readings are copyrighted, e.g. the Lord of the Rings. You should buy the book you are looking for. It is not a good idea to download a copyrighted book illegally. Apart from breaking the law, you risk downloading malware and viruses.
