By Pierre Fontaine

A lot of Paris travelers believe that there is only one existing modern art museum in the city.

In fact, there are number of places in Paris you can visit to see modern art, however, generally speaking there are two museums in Paris that are both known as the Modern Art Museum.

The Palace of Modern Art is but a portion of a large palace in 11 Avenue du President Wilson named after Woodrow Wilson, President of the United States during WW I. It is the first of the two modern art museums located in Paris.

If you chose to take the metro system to reach to the Palace of Modern Art, best stations to get off are Alma Marceau and Iena which are few walks away to your destination.

The Palace of Modern Art through its wide array of collection displays the various schools of art in France during the 1900s such as Expressionism, Dada, Cubism and Fauvism.

Some of the most modern artists whose works are on display at this modern art museum in Paris include Picasso, Braqe, Soutine, Modigliani and Dufy.

This museum in Paris is open daily, excluding Monday, from 10am until 5.30pm. On weekends opening hours are increased an hour into the evening. This museum often holds temporary exhibitions of modern art, for which there is a separate entrance fee.

The second spot to see modern artworks in Paris is located at the renowned Pompidou Center. It showcases 3000 pieces of modern artworks not only from France but various parts of the world. But then it usually leases its pieces to other art museums in the city and other parts of the country, so it is desirable to check with the custodian if you intend to see a particular art piece.

This museum like the other one also showcases works of contemporary French artist through holding temporary exhibits, all of which are conducted in the southern wing of the museum. Exact location of this museum is at Rue Saint-Merri.
