Things You Might Like To Know About Psychological Novels

By Kari Ratliff

Many things are involved in psychological novels. There will often be a mystery of some sort. There will often be a discovery that needs to be made, even if the book is not crime fiction. While many people enjoy this particular aspect, there are more important things to consider. Namely, that there will always be a focus on human psychology and character.

The motives of the character will come up, here, which refers to the reasons behind their actions and what propels them through the story. Another thing that will be important is how the circumstances that the character is in will affect those motives, as well as their actions, in general. The story will be about how these things are brought together to move the plot forward.

For this genre, the plot progresses more on the strength of the influences of the characters and the way that it affects them, rather than a sequence of events. In another story, the things that happen will be just simply relayed. The motives of characters may still have insight, of course. But the focus will tend to be on the events, themselves, rather than the psychology of the characters.

Psychologically influenced stories will subvert this, however. This kind of book will be enjoyed by those who like characterisation that is deeper. From a sociological perspective, this is also very interesting. Writing engaging characters does involve a good amount of knowledge on the way that minds actually work. The result of this is often that these characters are easier to relate to.

There is a better chance of you relating to characters, after all, if you know how their minds work. Even if the situation is not one who have any experience of, this can still be the case. Understanding the way that the mind of the character is working means that there is a better chance of being able to put yourself into that particular situation. Of course, you can often find that the reverse applies. You might not be able to relate to the character, no matter how familiar to you the situation might be.

The novel may have a stream of consciousness narrative, which mirrors the voice of the mind, itself. This means that it differs from narratives where the thoughts of the character are expressed in a more distant fashion. This also will mean that the point of view is limited, at least for a certain portion of the book. You cannot, after all, have a stream of consciousness and an omniscient third person narrative.

It might still be that the story is in third person, though, because third person can still be limited. Another thing that tends to be common is the internal monologue. The reader can be subjected to a lot of detail as the stream of consciousness moves quickly, and much of this may, at first, seem superfluous.

With internal monologues, the character will probably keep to one subject in particular. They are, in psychological novels, a way in which a character can be shown to be influencing the plot or being influenced by it.

Delving Into The Tradition Of African Tribal Masks

By Lucile Jacobs

Often seen as objects of art, the African tribal masks play an important role in even modern day tribal culture. For many tribes it is still seen as a magical part of each and every ceremony. The people of the tribe take part in these ceremonies at a feverish pace.

Anthropologists have spent years studying some of these cultures in order to uncover their true meaning. With the body dressed in full regalia, the mask is but a part of the entire illusion. None were made with materials that lasted very long and others were destroyed by the tribe once a ceremony had been completed.

It is surprising how so many tribes share in such a vast number of rituals. This proves to be the importance that these rituals played in the lives of the African tribesman. Each tribe has a shaman, or healer, who is held in high esteem. The shaman is the gateway between earth and the supernatural world. With their faces completely covered, they will contact the spirits for guidance and use this medium to forecast future events affecting their tribe.

Even in today's copies, these facial coverings will emit the power of magic. Not necessarily because a person believes in their power, but rather the belief held in them by ancient and modern tribe rituals. Despite the pagan view held by so many, it is by masking that the shaman can reveal his magic.

You will never find a tribal face covering that is an exact replica of another. They were used for numerous purposes and each purpose required a specific mask. They could be seeking spiritual guidance, or release from an illness. Whatever the reason, a new face covering was sculpted to fit the reason it was being used for. They often would often beseech prosperity for the tribe.

If you were the chosen one to make the facial coverings you were held in high esteem by your fellow men. This talent was taught to an individual by those that did the work before them. Every color and marking had a purpose, and the master carver knew them all.

The mask itself can be created from stone, wood, ivory, and metal. Occasionally even animal bones are carved and filed and then added as adornment. The shape of the eyes and the mouth and chin all play a part in the ritual. Many are topped with hair or some other material that represents hair.

If one hopes to have the thrill of African tribal masks on display in their home, they have to understand its meaning. Only by learning all there is to know about the tribes can their artistry be truly appreciated. Knowing the reason why a certain item was made will add to the allure of the piece when asked about it by a guest in your home.

A Calling of a Missionary - How to become one?

By Penelope Mandate Brown

When it was ordained by Jesus, "Go into the whole world", he was meant to speak to all those Christians who exist. But there could be a slight variation here. He does not say this to just an individual. He says this to the Church as one being.

The western culture has been blessed with unique entitlements and several individual responsibilities, yet has complete freedom. In the western world, each person has an individual perspective. Jesus wants each and every Christian to go out in the world. He is beckoning for his outer form to go. He assumes that everyone will go together as one world.

Why is this crucial? Because every single person cannot go abroad to do mission work. That command of Jesus also does not take that for granted. For example, think of war. As and when America is at war, the whole nation is at war, not just the troops who are out there fighting. The navy, army, air-force everyone is fighting at border. So are the supporting nurses, doctors, chefs, engineers, fire-fighters doing their part in the war. Their contribution is equally important.

The other contributors such as the ones building the aircrafts for the bomb attacks, the workers manufacturing the trucks for military purposes, some of the farmers who are producing food for the army men, others who are sewing the clothes for them, even the ones who are helping the economy to flourish by paying their taxes on timeif they refuse to work, everything will come to a halt. This can go on endlessly.

Not everyone can go out in the battleground to fight even if they want to when a nation is at war with some other country. The same ideology applies to missionary work for Christians. An individual will have to follow the command if approached directly. However it should be a group effort to go out and join in to make sure that the command is followed. Some may have to stay back to support the ones who are actually going for the purpose. They are both equally responsible for the cause even if some are going and some are not, that is called missionary work.

Easy Introduction to Philosophy

By Thomas Swanson

The concept of a 'philosophy' carries a variety of diverse meanings, and in the following intro to philosophy post I'll briefly lay these out there to be able to give you a solid grasp of what exactly philosophy is, the way anyone may become conscious of it, and how to start to cultivate your personal skill of thinking philosophically.

Have you been aware that everybody is a philosopher-even you? The only question for you is if you're a really good one or a bad one! The majority don't realize they have a philosophy. Philosophy is among one of those handful of areas where we will be hugely affected by it without having truly recognizing it. It is very similar to culture in that it is similar to the environment all of us breathe-we are taking it in constantly while not thinking about it.

The philosophy of the culture mixes with our unique ideas, in the end producing our own individual philosophies. This is where philosophy remains for many individuals, however individuals who desire to make certain their personal philosophy is right and beneficial for their life want to examine their own philosophy. Socrates, one of the more popular as well as original philosophers notoriously claimed "The unexamined life is not worth living." He advocates that we examine and also think about our own views about the deepest issues of existence so that we can be much more positive that we're living your life properly.

Unexpectedly the inspiration and "spirit" of philosophy is best observed in a kind of human being we might not really be expecting: children! Why a child? Aristotle, another well known philosopher, asserted "philosophy begins in wonder." A young child is a natural wonderer. A child ask question after question: why? why? why? They don't inquire this specific question because they want to learn how to do something, but because they only desire to know, to understand. Why's the sky blue? Exactly why can planes fly? Why do dogs bark? They're seeking for the reasons or causes of these matters. And this is precisely what philosophy is!

Philosophy derives from a pair of Greek phrases: philos, which means love, as well as sophia, meaning wisdom. Philosophy is a love for wisdom. However what exactly is wisdom? The Greek understanding of wisdom simply suggests "the understanding of causes or reasons." So to be a philosopher is just to love understanding the causes or reasons behind things. This is the 1st and most significant purpose of the phrase 'philosophy.'

'Philosophy' carries a subsequent significance, which is the more prevalent use of the term, which is simply the solutions that individuals have found as they ask "why?" concerning all sorts of things and seek for the causes and reasons for all of them. These could possibly be massive, fundamental items like: What is the root cause of happiness? Of the universe? Of life? Of love? However it also could be more unique like: What are the causes or reasons behind excellent music? Excellent artwork? Great food? Etc. You could produce a philosophy of anything by inquiring many forms of the question "why" about what you are curious about, and searching for their essential features and causes.

One of the better and most entertaining methods to develop your skill to think philosophically and understand the philosophies that have an impact on your current culture as well as your personal viewpoints would be to examine alongside the best philosophers through history as they show us ways to ask why and as they arrive to their own answers to essential questions.

Feel Good by Donating to Charity

By Andrew Scott

Have you ever received financial help without being asked to pay back? Ever wondered, what makes one to part with ones hard earned money without any expectations? It's strange but true that sharing gives a wonderful feeling of joy and peace. People who help others are happier than people who don't. It's mentioned for the umpteenth time by people who practiced it in their lives. We can also tap into the same source of joy and positive energy; we have to learn and practice to donate to charity.

If it's such a good thing, then why so many people don't donate to charity? Well, the first thought of giving away something without the hope of receiving it ever back gives rise to a strange feeling - a feeling of loss. Any sense of loss further gives rise to another strong feeling - fear. When we are uncomfortable with something, we always find out fitting excuses for not doing it. The first negative emotion which prevents people from doing charity is the impulse that "all charities are fraudulent." It is true that some organizations practice fraud in the name of charity, but there are quite some charitable organizations that do a wonderful job. Should we rob these good people of financial help because some are cheating?

Clothes, shoes or other items that are still useable can be donated to others. Aside from creating extra space for more valuable items in your closet, you will also feel good by donating to charity all items that you have in perfect condition but are no longer being used. Do not throw away goods of any kind; there are a lot of non-profit and charitable organizations who will accept these donations gratefully and ensure that these items will go to those who really need them.

There are many situations when clutter in the home becomes a bother. Items that are not needed around the house can be offered for donations. Surprisingly, such items have a positive impact to others in need. One gets a satisfactorily feeling when living in a less congested and cluttered home . Having more space in the home plus giving to the needy makes people appreciate that charity giving makes you feel good. Donations are also made in honor of a loved one. This brings a feel good experience to those who have been left behind. It is also common for an education institution, hospital or any other edifice to be named in honor of a deceased person.

We all love to live in a better world where there is no mean and selfish tendencies, where everybody is good and caring. We want all our near and dear ones, especially our children, to be safe and happy. It's not something strange and unachievable, but, it has a price. The price is to "share and care." Those who yearn to live a happy and prosperous life have to learn to share and care. How can we teach our children to be sensitive to the society around them? We have to first donate to charity, not once but regularly. Real teachings are imparted through demonstration, not by words.

Karan Johar's next starring Siddharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan packs surprises

By Rohini Nadia

Dharma Productions honcho Karan Johar has been known to introduce new talent in the industry, giving a bunch of debutant directors a head-start, including Nikhil Advani, Karan Malhotra, Ayan Mukerji and Tarun Mansukhani. The director-producer has never roped in younger and fresher actors for his directorial ventures however, and has usually had the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Amitabh Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan star in his films. Breaking his trend of casting Bollywood bigwigs, Karan Johar's upcoming Student of the Year will have three fresh-faces in the lead, Siddharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan.

Quoting Siddharth, "I have nothing to fall back on, for them (Alia and Varun) they can take guidance from their parents but I can't even discuss anything with my parents as they know nothing about the industry.

With an overwhelming response on webspace, "Ishq Wala Love" is quickly turning into one of the most popular tracks included in the Student of the Year soundtrack. The video includes romantic instances from the film featuring the leading trio, Siddharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. "Ishq Wala Love" uses fantastical and snowy scenery for a backdrop that beautifully complements this romantic and soothing number.

He worked as an assistant director to Karan Johar along with his now-co-star Varun Dhawan for "My Name Is Khan" (2010). "It has not been an easy journey. I started my career with modeling and then worked with Karan as an assistant director. At that time I had never imagined that he will cast me as a lead actor in his movie," says Siddharth.

A campus-romance set in an extravagant institution nestled in Dehradun, this Karan Johar movie will have Siddharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt fight the odds of competition, envy and jealousy to keep their relationship alive. Student of the Year released worldwide on the 19th of October, 2012.
