Selecting An Appropriate Stone On A Grave

By Peggy Lithgo

Losing a loved one can be a very difficult thing for many people to deal with. In order to deal with the intense sense of loss and grief they experience, they need something to help them cope. This is one reason the right Grave Memorial is important because it not only honors the deceased but also provides a physical token for the living.

This is one reason it is so important that the perfect burial marker be chosen. It should reflect the style and personality of the individual whose life it represents as it is intended to be a monument to their life. The range of design options and material choices are simply staggering, which makes it easier to find something that is a fitting tribute.

Many types of materials can be used to create these monuments. This includes wood, concrete, limestone and marble as well as stainless steel and brass. While each of those substances have desirable qualities, granite and bronze stand above them all as the most commonly used mainly because these two are attractive and versatile, yet also durable enough to stand up to some of the worst climate conditions.

A lot of cemeteries have begun placing restrictions on the markers that will be permitted to be installed on their grounds. Some reasons for the regulations may have to do with maintenance issues or maybe an effort to obtain a more uniform look. Regardless of why the guidelines are instituted, one should be aware if their preferred facility has any and keep them in mind when designing the gravestone.

Granite is a material that provides the designer with many options. It allows one to step away from the regular grey stone and choose more vibrant hues like green, blue, red, pink, black and white if so desired. They may decide to keep the traditional matte surface texture or opt for a highly polished finish that shines like a mirror and holds an etching beautifully.

There are many ways in which one may personalize the marker. One option is to etch the individual's favorite verse, quote, passage or symbol onto the surface. A weather resistant photo frame may be built directly into the stone to house a likeness of the deceased that could last for many decades yet to come.

If one has served in the military or belonged to any special organizations, there may be a decal representing that connection that may be added to the monument. Special additions like statues, flower vases, ornamental urns and convenient seating are still more ways to create a unique grave memorial. Some providers can even incorporate solar lighting into the product so that it is always illuminated.

Different Styles For Grave Stone Markers

By Olivia Banks

When an individual chooses to be buried instead of cremated, it is customary for their final resting place to be marked by a special plaque or monument. This is a way for one to be immortalized upon the Earth, leaving behind their name, dates and even special words of wisdom for all time. Graves Headstones are available in several styles, each with endless variations.

For hundreds of years, people have used stones as a way to mark a burial plot. The earliest forms were made with plain rocks, but as time progressed, people began to write identifying information on the markers in the form of symbols, numbers and words. That soon grew to engraving and the modern concept of specifically designed interment monuments.

Placed at the head of a grave, these markers usually bare the name of the person buried there, as well as their birthday and the day of their passing. They may be one of several variations of upright stones in an endless array of shapes, or they could be a low profile slab of metal or rock. Some of the more common designs are tablets, crosses and pedestals with urns or angels on top.

The most common style found in cemeteries around the world is the standard upright slab of stone, usually granite, either standing on its own or attached to a horizontal base. These can be shaped in many forms such as scroll tops, religious symbols, domed tablets or simple rectangles. Quite often, couples or families who have purchased multiple plots together, will have markers that hold the information for more than one person.

Bevels are a type of marker that has a wide base and a back side that is raised higher than the front by roughly two to four inches. It resembles a thick, flat slab but the angle makes it easier to read and keep clean. Slanted gravestones are quite similar in design though their rear edge is up by about forty-five degrees.

The Victorian era tombstones found in some of the oldest graveyards were the inspiration for the modern Gothic tablet style. These borrow the elaborate scrolling lines, ornate arches and detailed angles that were indicative of that period's architectural designs used in churches. They have a classic and interesting beauty.

Obelisks are impressive monuments, towering like tall tapered shards. They are beautiful structures that were originally found in ancient Egypt and often sport items such as angels, stars, pyramids or eagles at the topmost point. These are just a few of the many styles of grave headstones available in modern times.

Making A Proper Gravestone And Memorial

By Landy Walson

If family members are looking to commandeer a stone memorial for a lovely friend who has recently passed away, they will want to select a marker with the appropriate texture and style. As long as the stone holds up through the years ahead, the loved one should be properly honored. Individuals can ask for professional advice if they need help.

When choosing a stone, most men and women will want to strongly consider granite. The rock can be pink, white, brown, or black. In fact, the crystals themselves can be interwoven into a number of different textures. Granite is also a very hard igneous rock, which means it will remain in place for years without falling apart.

If people do not take a liking to granite, they might instead try marble. This particular rock, which is derived from limestone, offers pretty swirls. In fact, marble is often used in large mansions and ballroom floors. Because marble is a metamorphic rock, it is just as durable as granite. Marble can come in many different colors. Professional carvers will be able to provide more details.

Once the funeral ceremony is over, the final resting place will be the focal point. A nice headstone can be placed near the burial plot so that the entire location exudes peace and spirituality. Most headstones will have nicely carved messages that have been written by loved ones. Smaller stones will be hard to write for, so individuals should be very careful with what they choose.

Some individuals will have more money than others. If the family is looking to pay for a very large headstone that will tower over the rest of the cemetery, they will need to get their finances in order. With various relatives chipping in, the process should be affordable for all. The most elegant stones, of course, may very well be on the smaller side.

The shape of the headstone should be considered well ahead of time. Although many people will want a style that reflects their religious beliefs, others will be happy with anything that will stand the test of time. For the devoutly religious, a few choice quotes from their holy book of choice will usually work well.

In the end, people will want to look at several different styles and textures before they settle on a particular Stone Memorial. Having chosen something that honors the life that has recently passed, all relatives should be pleased with the results. The ceremony itself can then be planned in detail and the invitations sent off to the solemn guests.

In 1914, there was an outbreak of the First World War in the location of the building, but fortunately, the staffs have been started to evacuate since 1913. This was the first tragedy that the building has been conquered. Though there was a shortage of materials and funds, the Manitobans still pursued to build and restore the beauty of the building. Luckily, improvements were seen after the end of the war, and ceremonies have been conducted by Sir James Aikins, the Lieutenant-Governor of Manitoba to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the province. The camaraderie of the Manitobans in maintaining the beauty of the building was one of the most significant reasons why it gained the highest recognition at this point of time.

The next significant symbol was the grand staircase, consisted of 39 steps made from brown-vein Carrara Marble. Georges Gardet of Paris was also the designer of each 2,268-kilogram bison. There were many speculations about the creation of these bison and how the architect designed them, but the Manitoban people considered it as their precious ancient symbol next to the Golden Boy,

A shiny, sacred Golden Boy statue was also considered as one of the MLB trademarks. It has impressive 17 foot bronze cast covered with gold. Historians concluded that this figure was a representation of Hermes Trismigestus, one of the scholars who taught the wisdom of light in 1999, the father of Alchemy and occult philosophy. At a closer look, the Golden boy was holding some crops, minerals and wheat, while a torch on the other hand. Historical evidences concluded that the boy was a representation of Hermes, one of the greatest scholars, a man with an excellent knowledge of alchemy and wisdom of light.

The beauty of the Manitoba Legislative Beauty was worth visiting for. Actually, it was one of the world-winning structures with different ancient symbols such as the statue of Medusa, Bucranium for sacrifices, the figure of bare chested Jesus Christ and Masonic initiate, Egyptian Motifs, statue of agriculture, Blue Curtains and the ark of the Covenant (on top of the Lieutenant-Governor's room). Some historical evidences claimed that there were some things associated with the symbols and the purposes of the architect. Love, sex, fertility and war were included in the lists.
